Aristotle dismissed Democritus’ ideas as worthless. People considered his opinions very important and if Aristotle thought the atomic idea had to merit, then most other people thought the same also. He said that matter could be continually divided; matter “flowed” from one form to another. He came up with the idea that matter is continuous; no particles. All matter is made of 4 elements. All matter has all 4 elements, just in different proportions.
For Aristotle randomness didn’t really work with them. He had 4 elements and he could find a reason for each of them. He could explain lots of things such as the gods were still in control. They believed that everything fit together and it worked well.
